Description
One of an edition limited to 500 copies printed for subscribers. Original quarter fawn linen with blue paper covered boards, black lettering to the spine, edges untrimmed. Quarto, 240 x 180 mm, pp. [frontis, Plate 1 portrait] [title page] [limitation statement] [Foreword] [List of Contents] [ Illustrations] [contributors of the eight remembrances of Henry Daniel] [The Mark of the Daniel Press] 198 [Plates II -XV]. Henry Daniel (1836-1919), Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford from 1863 and Provost from 1903. The first book to be printed at the Bodleian Library (on the Daniel Press, which had been gifted to the library in 1920), this copy with the carte de visite of Mrs Daniel inserted into slits in the flyleaf to which a manuscript message is added, thanking 'dear Elise' for her 'kind sympathy & affection'. At the foot of the card is written 'Oddington, Moreton in Marsh', the Daniels' residence at the time of C.H.O. Daniel's death.
Condition
A book in Good condition with darkening of the linen spine, pushing of the lower corner points of the boards, light marks overall and browning to the free endpapers.
