Copy number '37' of an edition limited to 100 copies produced for friends of the Press at Christmas 1984. Described as 'an advance tasting' of part of what might possibly be a facsimile issue of a 142 leaf Chiswick Press type specimen book, the book itself probably being a unique survivor of a small number made for internal use in the press composing room. The book showed "the incomparable collection of initial lettewrs, head and tailpieces, and borders & ornamentrs. Most of them were engraved by Mary Byfield, and a number were designed by Charlotte and Elizabeth Eleanor Whittingham". Blue alphabet-decorated paper wrappers, stapled. 235 x 110 mm, pp. [16], 15 of which are devoted to the illustrations.

A booklet in Very Good condition with one small nick on the foredge of upper cover, now in a clear, archival quality, protective display pocket.
