Publisher's red cloth with black lettering to the front cover and spine, and a black publisher's device to the rear cover. Clear, removable, archival sleeve fitted to the illustrated dust-jacket. Octavo. 20 x 13.5 cm: [A]8, B-S8, 114 leaves, pp. [1-6] 7-8 [9-10] 11-288, with 16 plates on coated paper printed on one side only following pp. 2, 28, 36, 80, 92, 122, 134, 170, 186, 206, 228, 236, 242, 250, 278, and 284. Sheets bulk 3 cm. Text 20 lines 7.8 x 8.8. The spine of the dust-jacket includes the words 'for boys and girls' in addition to the title and author.
Condition
A book in Very Good condition in a Very Good dust-jacket which is not price-clipped and showing '3s. 6d. net'.The dust-jacket is rubbed at the extremities, with two short closed tears at the creases at head of the spine. A contemporary gift inscription on the front free endpaper reads 'To Hewel (?) | With best wishes from | Auntie Gertrude | Xmas. 1935.'
