Lady Rumbold was the daughter of the actress Hermione Baddely and the writer Stephen Tennant, marrying Julian Pitt-Rivers, then Euan Graham and finally Sir Anthony Rumbold, 10th Bt. Rumbold who had known Thesiger at Eton and was his contemporary at Magdalen College, Oxford.
